Shutter Speed Experiments: Torches.

To get the effects of drawings in the air, I had to change the shutter speed of the camera so that it was very slow. It was set to around 10" for the writing, and 5" for the heart at the bottom as the writing took longer to complete. To make the patterns, my model used a torch and created a word or shape with the beam. As the shutter was open for a long while, it enabled the camera lens to capture the pattern of light that was created so that it is visible. In order to get the best effect, we had to go into a dark room so that the light stood out better against the darker background.
This image was accidental, created when I pressed the shutter button without realising. The shutter speed was set to 5". When my model came to assist me with the camera, the torch was still turned on and so the image of the moving beams of light was captured.
